Where Our Stone Is Used

The same slab behaves differently on a kitchen counter, a wet pool deck and a south-facing wall. Here is how we match stone to job.

Six Common Uses

Choosing Stone By The Job, Not By The Photo

Almost every problem we are called about comes from the right stone being used in the wrong place. These six pages of notes are what we tell customers before they order.

Kitchen Countertops

A kitchen counter takes more punishment than any other surface in a house. Hot vessels come straight off the flame onto it, turmeric and oil get spilled on it, and it is wiped down several times a day. Granite handles all three, which is why it has been the standard Indian kitchen surface for decades.

We help you pick a stone that suits how you actually cook. Dark stones such as Black Galaxy and Tan Brown hide daily marks best. Light stones such as Kashmir White open the room up but want sealing and a little more care. We cut to your exact drawing, including sink cutouts, hob cutouts and drip grooves.

Flooring

Stone flooring is a once-in-a-generation decision. Done properly it outlasts the furniture, the paint and usually the owner, and it needs almost nothing beyond sweeping and mopping. It also stays noticeably cooler than tile or wood through the North Indian summer.

We supply floor stone as calibrated slabs and tiles, cut to a consistent thickness so the layer of mortar underneath stays even and the finished floor is truly flat. For large areas we hold the whole order from matched blocks, so the shade does not shift halfway across the room.

Wall Cladding

Cladding a wall in natural stone changes a building more than any amount of paint can. Indoors it gives a room a single strong material to sit against. Outdoors it protects the wall behind it from sun and rain while giving the elevation real depth and shadow.

For exterior work we normally recommend quartzite or sandstone in a natural split face, fixed with mechanical anchors on anything above a metre or two. For interior features, book-matched marble or granite panels give a smooth, continuous pattern across the whole wall.

Staircases

A staircase is unforgiving work. Every tread has to be the same depth, every riser the same height, and the stone has to match across the full flight or the eye picks up the difference immediately on the way up.

We cut treads, risers, landing slabs and matching skirting from the same block and number every piece so it goes down in the right order on site. Nosings can be supplied square, bullnosed, half-bullnosed or with an anti-skid groove line, and we can chamfer the front edge where children use the stairs.

Building Facade

A stone facade has to survive forty-five degree summers, monsoon rain and years of dust without fading, spalling or streaking. Not every stone can do that, and the wrong choice becomes obvious three monsoons later, not three months later.

We supply facade stone in the grades that are proven outdoors: dense granite, quartzite and hard sandstone, in flamed, natural split or honed finishes. We can supply it cut to a fixing schedule with anchor slots or kerf grooves already machined, so the site team is not cutting into finished stone at height.

Monuments

Memorial work asks two things of a stone: that it lasts outdoors indefinitely, and that lettering cut into it stays sharp and readable. Dense black granite does both better than any other material, which is why it is used for memorials worldwide.

We supply monument-grade Absolute Black and Black Galaxy in slab and cut-to-size form, polished on the faces that need it and honed or rough on the rest. Engraving, etching and gold or silver lettering can be arranged, and we can work from a drawing or a rubbing of an existing stone for matching work.
