Black Galaxy is quarried around Ongole in Andhra Pradesh and it is probably the most recognised Indian granite in the world. The base is a true, even black, and set into it are thousands of small bronze and gold specks. Those specks are bronzite crystals, a naturally occurring mineral, and they are what give the stone its night-sky look under a light.
It is a hard, dense stone with very low water absorption, so it takes a mirror polish and keeps it. Hot pans, water rings and everyday knife work do not mark it, which is why it has become the default choice for kitchen countertops in India and abroad. It also hides crumbs and water spots far better than a pale stone does.
We select Black Galaxy carefully. Cheaper lots often carry uneven fleck density or a greyish cast in one corner of the slab. We check every slab against a reference piece so that a run of countertops or a full floor reads as one continuous material rather than a patchwork.
