Rainbow Sandstone is the most colourful natural stone quarried in India. Across a single sheet you can find rust, gold, cream, purple, grey and a soft green, laid in wavy bands. The colours are natural mineral staining, mainly iron oxides, that seeped through the sand before it hardened.
No two pieces are the same, and that is the point of the stone. It is used for feature walls, garden walls, water feature backdrops and elevation panels, where the variation is a feature rather than a problem to be managed.
Because the pattern is so strong, we advise laying it as a whole area rather than mixing it with other stone in the same plane. It looks best in a random or ashlar pattern with a tight joint, so the colours flow across the wall without a grid interrupting them.
