Emperador Dark is quarried in the Murcia region of south-eastern Spain. It is a deep chocolate brown marble threaded with irregular white, cream and light gold veins that stand out sharply against the dark ground.
It is a stone for making a room feel enclosed and expensive rather than open and bright. It is used for bar fronts, cigar lounges, executive washrooms, fireplace surrounds and dark bathroom schemes, and it is often paired with a white marble as a deliberate light-dark contrast.
Like all marble it is softer than granite and reacts to acid, so in a bathroom we recommend it honed and sealed. Its one great practical advantage is that dark marble hides water marks and everyday dust far better than white marble does.
